Turn a Working Lunch into a Walking Lunch

Yes, it can be hard to find time in your schedule to squeeze in some physical activity. However, walking is one of the simplest, safest and most effective forms of exercise. And here’s your perfect opportunity to get started.

Wednesday, April 25 is the 10th annual National Walk @ Lunch Day sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield Companies. It’s an event designed to encourage busy people like you to embrace a walk routine.

Last year, tens of thousands of workers across the country took a 30-minute walk during lunch, and took a first step towards a healthier lifestyle. This year, we hope to top those numbers, and make National Walk @ Lunch Day an even greater success.

Participation is fun and easy. Simply remember to bring your walking shoes to work. And simply be willing to step away from your desk for awhile.

Regular brisk walking can help you:

  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes
  • Strengthen your bones
  • Lift your mood
  • Improve your balance and coordination
